Completely volunteer run and funded by individuals who care, Ōtautahi Animal Refuge and Education Trust (OAR) are able to offer all our services completely free; This includes basic grooming and advice, public education, and rehabilitation for domestic bred rabbits, ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, and reptiles etc.
Our Community Programme play a vital role in our mission; offering education through a direct hands-on approach, we can reduce the breeding, abuse and neglect of domestic animals in our society.
Free Services and Education Available
We offer our services free so as not to limit our ability to work with you directly, helping you achieve the best outcome possible for both you and your pet/s.
This includes basic grooming and advice, and rehabilitation for domestic breed rabbits, ducks, guinea pigs, and reptiles etc.
Please don’t hesitate to take advantage of our services.
How you can make a difference
We offer personalized adoption programs and trial periods with most of our rescued pets. Alternatively you may be in a position to foster an animal until a forever home becomes available, or volunteer your skills and knowledge towards our cause.

OAR is funded by a growing group of individuals who donate as little as the price of coffee every week or month, creating a sustainable budget for our volunteers to run our Charitable organisation long term.

Community and Education
Through our Community Centre and Education Trust we are able to offer our community unique opportunities to learn through hands on experiences; whether that be at our Community Centre, our displays at public events or private programmes, we know that personal first hand education creates substantial growth in our knowledge.
We are available to book for community events and private functions at no cost, as awareness is most valuable.
